Call on your MPP to improve our healthcare system in Ontario by allowing pharmacists to assess and treat minor ailments.
In eight provinces across Canada, pharmacists are able to assess and, if warranted, treat patients for common ailments like pink eye, strep throat and sinus infections. But in Ontario they can’t. Our only option is to wait weeks for a doctor’s appointment or go to an already crowded emergency room.
Ontario’s pharmacists are highly-trained, knowledgeable, and trusted healthcare professionals, and are more than qualified to help patients with easily-treatable, self-limiting minor ailments. By allowing them to assess and treat these everyday conditions, we not only ensure patients have timely access to care in their communities, but can help alleviate the strain on our healthcare system as a whole, reducing wait times and the all-too common practice of “hallway medicine.”
